The Forbidden Alleyway by Grace LaTourelle

Misty walked into Al’s Diner. Her family was poor so she stole things for them, making her a known thief in her little town of Atlanta.

Once inside, Misty looked around the diner. She decided to target one of the waitresses who had a beautiful, golden medallion with a blue gem in the middle.

Once “accident” and two angry shouts later, Misty was running out of the diner with the medallion tucked in her jacket. She ran through town with the police trailing shortly behind. Suddenly, she hit a crack in the sideway and tripped. The medallion tumbled out of her jacket and got lodged in the crack. The police grabbed her and took her away, leaving the wondrous medallion in what would soon be known as, The Forbidden Alleyway.

Drea walked out her back door and inhaled the scent of pine trees and burnt paper. The previous night, Drea and her mother had made a bonfire to celebrate Drea’s 13th birthday. Now that she was officially a teenager, she decided she could take a walk alone.

Drea walked by the school building, the grocery story that was always half stocked, and city hall, before stopping in between two buildings. The area was blocked off by police tape. This was The Forbidden Alleyway. It was forbidden because of the mysterious happenings and alien sightings. But Drea wasn’t as scared of this alleyway as the other people in town were. So, she ducked under the tape and into the alleyway.

“It’s just a normal alleyway! What’s everyone so afraid of?” Drea mumbled.

She was about to duck back under the police tape and walk home, when she spotted a glittering medallion, lodged in a sideway crack. She bent over and picked it up.

“Wow! This is beautiful!” Drea exclaimed, admiring the blue center gem.

Drea ducked under the police tape with her new find in her hand. Then, she walked home.

“I’m home!” Drea yelled through her house.

She ran upstairs and dropped the medallion off in her room. Then, she thumped downstairs and a horrible smell filled the room. It smelled like rotten fish. Drea walked into the kitchen.

“Hi Drea honey!” Her mother said, holding out a tray. “Do you want a honeydew and chocolate chip cookie?” She asked.

“Um, I’ll pass,” Drea said, not wanting to gag at her mother’s cooking in front of her.

“Buzzzzz! Sssssssss!” Came a noise that seemed to be coming from upstairs.

“What is that sound?” Drea’s mom asked, alarmed.

“I, I don’t know! I’ll go check,” Drea said bravely. She slowly walked up the stairs  and to her room and looked around. No one was there.

“Hello?” She asked.

“Sssssss,” There came in reply.

“Hello? Who’s there?” Drea called.

“Buzz! I…… am… Clooooordooooo!” Whatever it was said.

That’s when she noticed the medallion on her dresser. The center jewel was glowing blue. She then ran out of my room faster than you can say, “Creepy jewelry!”

The next day at school, Drea put the medallion on a pin and wore the medallion to school. She walked up to her best friend Aberdeen and explained what had happened.

“So, let me get this straight. You went into the forbidden alleyway, brought home this mysterious medallion,” She pointed to Drea’s lavender shirt where the medallion was. “And it said it’s name was Clordo?” Aberdeen question incredulously. Drea nodded and Aberdeen said, “Oh Drea! Now you’re being haunted  by a crazy medallion! You know, I sometimes worry about you! I mean, you went into the Forbidden Alleyway! Who does that? Well, apparently you do…” On and on she went until Drea just walked away.

That afternoon in English class, Drea’s teacher announced that they would be writing science fiction stories.

Great! Drea thought. That should be easy- I’m living one!

She started writing, but changed all the names so when she turned it in, the teacher wouldn’t suspect anything. There once was a girl named Starr who went into the Forbidden Alleyway. In the sidewalk crack, was a beautiful medallion. She took it to school the next day. Her friend Codi reprimanded her, but her friend Pablo thought that it was cool.

Suddenly, the notebook that she was writing in, started spinning around and the medallion glowed blue. Then, three people rose out of the paper. A girl with golden locks and an evil smile, a guy with a grayish tint to his face, and a young, weak looking girl that had a pale face.

“Who are you?” Drea asked the three.

The girl with golden hair laughed. “I’m Codi,” She said.

“I’m Pablo,” The guy with the grayish tint to his face said.

“And,” The young girl started.

“That’s Starr,” Codi cut in and pointed to the girl.

“B..But you’re from my story!”

“Wow. Nice to meet you author obvious! Anyways, we don’t belong to you, we are servants of Clordo.” Codi said.

“Clordo? You mean my medallion?” Drea asked confused.

Codi laughed again and said, “That’s just what he uses to communicate with. He really lives on his planet Orlock.”

“Then why are you guys here?” Drea questioned.

“Because, Orlock is a very small planet and it needs more room. So, we’ve made a plan and we are going to invade your world!” Pablo said before Codi got a chance to open her mouth.

“No!” Drea exclaimed.

Pablo and Codi smiled evilly while Starr glowered at Codi. Suddenly, Codi lunged at Drea and ripped the medallion off of her shirt.

“Ahh!” Drea shrieked.

“Pablo! Grab her!” Codi instructed.

Pablo grabbed Drea around her waist and, following Codi’s lead, dragged her out of the room. While all this happened, the teacher and the rest of the class didn’t notice.

They dragged her to the cafeteria. Then, Codi went into the kitchen area with the medallion.

“Codi, please let me go! Go back to Orlock!” Drea yelled.

She heard laughter from the kitchen. Then, a few minutes later, Codi came back with a slice of pizza.
Codi handed her the slice and said, “Eat it.”

Drea, too hungry to realize that she was be tricked, ate the slice of pizza. Then, her eyes turned to small, black circles. She stood up and said, “I am a servant of Clordo!” She said.

Then Aberdeen, who had been listening from the doorway, barged into the cafeteria. She ran into Codi yelling, “You get away from my friend! Who are you?”

Codi smiled evilly and said, “Servants of Clordo, written by Drea!”

Aberdeen gasped, then ran out of the cafeteria.

Pablo laughed and said, “That scared girl! Ha!”

Pablo and Codi started laughing hysterically, but Starr ran out of the room too to follow Aberdeen.

The two arrived back a minute later. Aberdeen carried a notebook and pencil.

“Give it up!” She yelled at Codi, who had been talking to Drea and giving her instructions.

“Never!” She yelled back.

Aberdeen then plopped on the floor, opened the notebook, and started scribbling something.

“What are you doing foolish girl?” Codi asked.

“Destroying you!” Drea wrote one more sentence and Codi and Pablo suddenly vanished.

“Thank you for helping me! I kept you alive to show my gratitude!” Aberdeen said to Starr.
Starr nodded her head.

“What are you doing here, human?” Drea asked Aberdeen.

“Oh Drea!” Aberdeen cried. “What happened?!”

Then, she spied the medallion laying in the doorway of the kitchen. The blue jewel in the center had a piece missing from it.

Suddenly, she knew what to do. She grabbed Drea around her middle and tried to perform the heimlich maneuver. Drea then spit out the piece of the gem she had swallowed and her eyes turned back to normal.

“Thank you so much Aberdeen!” Drea told her friend greatfuly.

She smiled, blushing. Then, out of the tiny blue gem that Drea had swallowed, a hologram type thing that showed an alien spoke. “I am Clordo! You have destroyed all of my servants and now you shall be destroyed!”

But before he could kill Aberdeen and Drea, Drea stepped on the stone crushing it into tiny pieces.

Then, Aberdeen and Drea picked up the medallion and took it outside where they buried it under a tall evergreen. And there it would lay for years and years.
