Summer Retreat by Helena Ligthart and Adalyn Raney

Out on the paved street,
some play games while
others eat.
When some are dancing,
little kids run and play,
sad for the end of the day.

For soon the sun sets behind the trees,
and we feel the summer breeze.
When the last ray of sun disappears,
a fire cheers the warm summer night,
and we sit by it’s light,
eating sticky treats
under the stars.

As the long day has passed,
we lay in our warm beds at last.
And say goodnight,
for tomorrow
the sun will shine.
